Landing Products is supporting U. S. Navy development effort for very quiet Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) propellers. The photograph shown in recent Landing Products advertisements is a prototype provided to the Navy for preliminary performance and acoustic testing in a wind tunnel facility.
Landing Products is currently refining existing manufacturing capability to support mold generation aspects of this program. The prototype propellers are currently being manufactured with carbon fiber materials using a hand lay-up process. We anticipate that techniques will eventually be developed for injection molding manufacturing of these products.
Landing Products does not currently intend to market these 7-blade propellers to the general public. However, the modeling community should ultimately benefit from this low noise propeller development program. The knowledge gained from the detailed testing and analysis expected with this engineering effort will hopefully migrate to model propeller manufacturers eventually. This should promote technical improvements beneficial to propeller noise abatement. The latter is becoming increasingly significant to preservation of model aircraft flying fields."
